The Akaushi Difference

Breed background

 

The Akaushi breed originates from Japan and was first introduced in the United States in 1994. In Japanese, Akaushi means red cow; for this reason the breed is also known as Red Wagyu. Akaushi is one of four original Japanese Wagyu breeds.


Heart healthy protein

 

Compared to other cattle breeds, the fat content of Akaushi meat contains a higher percentage of monounsaturated fat, which has been proven to benefit heart health and lead to lower cholesterol.


Taste & tenderness

 

Akaushi is known for its intense marbling. In addition to marbling, the meat possesses a greater distribution of intramuscular fat (IMF) compared to other breeds. This provides a uniquely rich, palatable beef with exceptional tenderness.


Our Beef

We utilize fullblood Akaushi genetics crossed with American Angus, Shorthorn, and Hereford influenced cattle. The result is an F1 (first generation half-blood) Akaushi animal that yields a well-marbled, tender, and great tasting American Wagyu beef product.

At our family farm, Akaushi is not the only unique factor that distinguishes Ad Astra beef from others. We implement stewardship practices that promote regeneration of the land and well-being of our cattle. These practices include rotational grazing, antibiotic and hormone free beef, as well as a grass and grain diet with a lengthened finishing cycle that accentuate bold flavor and tenderness.
